As part of the work we carry out in Nigeria through the Valide Association, we presented copies of the Holy Quran to our student brothers and sisters in the region. At the end of the line set up in a dusty, earthen square, each student left holding a trust they will carry with them for a lifetime.
During the distribution event held in Nigeria, copies of the Holy Quran were delivered to dozens of students. The students, dressed in colorful traditional attire, patiently lined up and, the moment they received their books, began opening the pages and reading without even stepping out of line.
The reverence in a child’s hands...
A single frame captured by the camera during the distribution perfectly summed up the day: A young student waiting in line, holding the Qur’an he had just received with both hands, bowed his head and ran his fingers over the pages with great care. He was neither turning the pages hurriedly nor looking at the crowd around him. In that moment, it was the silence of someone who knew exactly what had been given to him.
Our team on the ground reported that most of the students had never owned their own copy of the Holy Quran before and were following their lessons using a few shared copies.
As the Valide Association, in addition to distributing copies of the Quran in Nigeria, we continue our activities in areas such as providing hot meals and building water wells. Our list of students in the region awaiting a copy of the Quran is still growing.
